AOPA UK

The UK Association of Practising Accountants running on a purpose-built platform — tiered firm membership, a public directory, certification and renewals, instead of a WordPress site and a spreadsheet.

The problem

A membership body earns its subscriptions on two things: members being able to prove they belong, and prospects being able to find them. Both were manual. Applications arrived by email and were vetted by hand, certificates were produced one at a time, and the public firm directory drifted out of date the moment a member lapsed — so the directory quietly advertised firms who were no longer paying.

The approach

A membership lifecycle built around the renewal date rather than bolted beside it: application, verification, tiered membership, invoicing, renewal and certification all reference the same record, so lapsing a member removes them from the directory automatically. Firms get their own micro-site within the directory, which is the part members actually value, and the body gets an accurate picture of who is current without anyone reconciling anything.

Who built it

AOPA UK was founded and built by Abdul Rehman Sandhu, a qualified accountant and technology advisor working with businesses globally. The same diagnostic approach behind this venture is the one applied in client engagements.
