Most software for accountants is built by people who have never been one. I spent twelve years being one.
I qualified as an accountant and spent 2000 to 2012 in practice, from junior to partner. Along the way I became the person who dealt with the software — bringing new systems in properly, and automating the functions that consumed the most hours and returned the least judgement.
In 2012 I left practice to do that full time. The start was not easy; leaving an established position to build something from nothing rarely is. What I had was an understanding of the businesses I was building for, because for twelve years I had been one of them.
